Grazie Cinescienza (talk) 07:58, 26 June 2022 (UTC)
- @Cinescienza: Sorry, I don't know what you mean by "nonciclopedia". If you think the image should not be deleted, reply at Commons:Deletion_requests/File:Centomilcento.png. --Lord Belbury (talk) 11:48, 26 June 2022 (UTC)
Photo[edit]
How to add an image, photo cover, etc. from foreign Wikipedias to the article? Lentner05 (talk) 16:46, 28 June 2022 (UTC)
- @Lentner05: Sorry, I don't know what article you're talking about, and am not familiar with all Wikipedia projects. Ask at your local Wikipedia's help page. Lord Belbury (talk) 16:58, 28 June 2022 (UTC)
Questions about photo deletions[edit]
I am lost as to the rules of cover photo uploading. I understand that I can't just upload the covers I find on google, but the last three I've uploaded (Schiop, Soldații/ Goldiș / Bocai, Filologii) are all photos I made mysel of books I own - it's clearly visibile from their details, one can see the creases on the covers. Are these unacceptable as well? Previous personal photographs of books I own were kept on the site, so I don't know why these were marked for copyright violation? I own the images. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aelpenor (talk • contribs) 08:43, 29 June 2022 (UTC)
- @Aelpenor: If a book cover includes copyrighted artwork, someone taking a photo of that artwork doesn't transfer the copyright to them. If I want to publish a book myself, I can't just take a photo of another book to use as its cover art. See Commons:Derivative works. Covers that are purely text are too simple to copyright, but anything with creative artistic elements could be challenged. Lord Belbury (talk) 08:58, 29 June 2022 (UTC)
- @Lord Belbury: So if I'm writing articles on contemporary literature, there is basically no chance for me to upload book covers without them being taken down. But I will respect the rule, thank you for the swift reply, I'll refrain from uploading any covers. Aelpenor (talk) 09:18, 29 June 2022 (UTC)
- @Aelpenor: You can't upload modern book covers to Commons, but you may be able to upload them to your local Wikipedia project under "fair use", if it allows it. (The English Wikipedia project permits this under https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Non-free_content, allowing its articles about modern books and films to be illustrated.) --Lord Belbury (talk) 09:23, 29 June 2022 (UTC)
Cthulhu[edit]
Hi, I noticed that you nominated two images I uploaded for deletion.
https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Todos_teman_al_todopoderoso_Cthulhu.jpg
https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Sailor_Moon_fighting_against_Cthulhu.jpg
I understand that they are of low quality and that they do not serve very well to represent the subject of artificial intelligence, but I think they deserve to continue in Commons as two images that represent the character Cthulhu Strange Anomaly (talk) 23:30, 30 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Strange Anomaly: I've put my thoughts at Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Craiyon, where I was writing about a lot of unused Craiyon images on Commons rather than just these two of Cthulhu. Would be useful to get your input there if you have some thoughts on how these images are useful and should be kept. Lord Belbury (talk) 09:06, 31 July 2022 (UTC)
Craiyon images[edit]
Some dozen or so of these images were specifically created as illustrations for the July 31 Signpost, which is due to publish in three hours. As such, I am currently editing the issue and preparing it for publication, and do not have the time to properly articulate myself here. The ones I have made are not being put into file categories for their subjects (i.e. "Dalmatian bench" is not in any categories for benches or Dalmatians). I will respond to the nomination in more detail later, but for the time being, I can assure you that many of these are directly relevant to a project. JPxG (talk) 19:36, 31 July 2022 (UTC)
- @JPxG: From your talk page, it looks like only three of them were your uploads, and those three aren't in use on any Signpost drafts? I didn't nominate images any that were in use on any project. --Lord Belbury (talk) 19:49, 31 July 2022 (UTC)
hi[edit]
i dont konw much about copyright. how can i delete my files? Crenshaw1912 (talk) 10:20, 3 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Crenshaw1912: They'll be deleted automatically, soon, don't worry about it. --Lord Belbury (talk) 10:26, 3 August 2022 (UTC)
- Ok thanks
- Will my account be blocked after files are deleted? Crenshaw1912 (talk) 10:29, 3 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Crenshaw1912: No, you're okay, Commons only blocks people if they carry on doing something after they were asked to stop. If you have questions about copyright of future uploads you can ask them at Commons:Village pump/Copyright, but basically if you've found an image online, then the site you're taking it from has to very clearly say that the image has been released as public domain (or some similar licence), you can't just upload pictures from newspapers here. --Lord Belbury (talk) 10:35, 3 August 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you very much Crenshaw1912 (talk) 10:37, 3 August 2022 (UTC)

File:Sasa_Mirkovic_u_2021.jpeg[edit]
Hello, please undelete this image, Sasa_Mirkovic_u_2021.jpeg, it is not copyright. If you check the email of wikipedia commons you will see that the image is uploaded in march of 2021. Since that news article is after in that year, it can only mean that the image was taken from wikipedia. The images in its first, is the owners sole ownership, taken from private archive, which was also confirmed in the email for copyright commons.
Please do not go arround and verify something that is not correct, just to do something in a day. Please be thorough, because this errors create a lot of problems for this kind of edits.. Regards,
Spawnjfk (talk) 17:00, 12 August 2022 (UTC)Dj
- @Spawnjfk: Thanks for your response. You uploaded the image in October 2021, and the news article image is from March and at a higher resolution. I don't know what email you mean, the file didn't have an OTRS email verification template on it at the time of deletion. You can click the "you may request request undeletion" link on your talk page if you wish to the image to be restored. --Lord Belbury (talk) 17:13, 12 August 2022 (UTC)
Cartel de Rock Bellavista[edit]
Se puede saber por que usted a declarado que es autor del cartel? Aggnet (talk) 16:18, 20 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Aggnet: Hi. I haven't claimed to be the author? If you are the author, see Commons:Volunteer_Response_Team/es for how to confirm this. --Lord Belbury (talk) 16:34, 20 August 2022 (UTC)
Copyright Image Notice[edit]
According to Google, I am allowed to include an attributed Google Earth Screen shot, as long as it is attributed and meets their required. This is their commentary on it. Please, what is the issue with my image?
https://about.google/brand-resource-center/products-and-services/geo-guidelines/#required-attribution CALAYUGAN (talk) 20:43, 11 September 2022 (UTC)
- @CALAYUGAN: Google's general guidelines for Google Earth output (https://about.google/brand-resource-center/products-and-services/geo-guidelines/#general-guidelines) are that "you’re welcome to export and use a handful of static images, with proper attribution, for non-commercial purposes such as news, blogs, educational, recreational, or instructional use."
- The "non-commercial purposes" requirement is not compatible with Commons:Licensing. It's incorrect for you to upload such an image claiming it to be CC-Attribution, allowing commercial reuse. --Lord Belbury (talk) 20:55, 11 September 2022 (UTC)
